Genius Rap: Enta Da Stage

Posted on May 19, 2012

Welcome to Genius Rap, a Hip Hop blog devoted to the preservation of rap and Hip Hop history. This blog chronicles the best works of MC’s, DJ’s, and rap producers, who’ve created the songs and albums that have moved millions of people over the last several decades. But, Genius Rap also explores the works of artists who’ve inspired rap; from Hip Hop predecessors like Gil Scott-Heron, The Watts Prophets, and The Last Poets, to soul and funk artists who’ve been sampled frequently by rappers, such as James Brown and Parliament-Funkadelic.

Named after “Genius Rap”, the classic 1981 single by Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde, Genius Rap is a blog created out of necessity. Over the last several years, a desire to chase the latest trends has pervaded Hip Hop; creating an environment where the history of both rap music and Hip Hop culture is being forgotten. Rather than purveying the newest flavor-of-the-month releases, Genius Rap captures the sights, sounds, and images of Hip Hop’s glorious past; focusing primarily on old school Hip Hop – the period between 1979 and 1986 – and the Golden Era, defined here as the period between 1987 and 1995.

Genius Rap is dedicated to honoring rap music and Hip Hop; along with those who’ve given their time and talent to develop both the music (rap) and the culture (Hip Hop). Whether you’re a fan of old school rap of 90’s Hip Hop; Dirty South rap or New York Hip Hop, Genius Rap has you covered, from 1979 to Infinity.
